Cellon and Sonim Partner to Design and Produce First OMA PoC-Compliant Push-to-Talk Handset
San Mateo, Calif. and Shenzhen, China -- September 20, 2006
Sonim Technologies, the leader in mobile VoIP and push-to-talk IMS solutions for operators and the global provider of high-performance mobile VoIP applications and devices, today revealed a year-long partnership with Cellon International, a leading provider of end-to-end design and systems integration services for the wireless handset industry. Together Sonim and Cellon have developed the Sonim XP1, the industry’s first OMA PoC 1.0 compliant handset and the first push-to-talk device specifically designed to address the demanding environmental requirements of mobile field force work teams.
The XPI is a tri-band GSM / GPRS handset with a unique form factor that combines a high-output audio sound system, a bright screen for outdoor use, prominent PTT control buttons and a heavy-duty ruggedized water-resistant frame designed to withstand dust and significant physical impacts. Together with Sonim’s embedded OMA PoC 1.0 client software, the XP1 delivers an optimal PTT user experience for the largely untapped mobile workforce community in Europe – a 25 million strong community of industrial workers with limited communication options today. The device is GCF certified, OMA PoC 1.0 certified and IP52 certified and is now in live trial deployments in seven countries across Europe.
"Through the XP1, Sonim is bringing push-to-talk to mobile workers across Europe – a communications productivity tool that has been until now prohibitively expensive for all but the largest enterprises and government / military organizations,” said William Wong, President of Cellon. "We believe this represents a large untapped market and are excited to apply our development skills toward innovative designs like the XP1."
“Cellon is known globally for the strength of its integration and design services, and for its track record of bringing unique, leading-edge designs to market,” said Bob Plaschke, CEO of Sonim. “We have been very pleased with our Cellon partnership and are excited about the prospects for the XP1 as OMA PoC services begin rolling-out across Eastern and Western Europe.”
