Sonim Welcomes Motorola Endorsement of Open Mobile Alliance Push-To-Talk-Over-Cellular (OMA PoC)
SAN MATEO, Calif. -- July 18, 2006
Motorola joins Nokia and Sonim in announcing commercial roadmap for OMA PoC standard phones and servers. Sonim, co-author of the OMA PoC specification, encourages other leading infrastructure companies to embrace OMA PoC to ensure global interoperability for next generation IP based voice messaging.
Sonim Technologies, global provider of high-performance VoIP applications for mobile data networks, welcomes Motorola's announcement that it will begin to offer OMA PoC compliant phones and servers. The OMA PoC standard was formally ratified by the OMA in June and since then both Nokia and Motorola have announced their support and plans to commercialize the standard.
"We welcome Motorola into the OMA PoC family, joining Sonim and Nokia as the two leaders in the OMA PoC space," said Bob Plaschke, CEO of Sonim Technologies. "We continue to see uptake of this standard by leading Mobile Operators as they recognize the significance and impact of global interoperability for mobile VoIP applications across handsets and operators. For example, 3 Sweden announced they will launch OMA PoC across a number of handsets and we expect more operators to announce in the coming months."
Last month, Sonim announced it completed interoperability testing for its broad suite of OMA-PoC 1.0 compliant products in efforts sponsored by leading mobile operators intending to deploy OMA-PoC 1.0 compliant services later in 2006.
As the only pure-play provider of end-to-end OMA-PoC 1.0 solutions, Sonim played an instrumental role in bringing the standard from concept to realization.
